Located off the southeast coast, this uninhabited granite island gets its name from its silhouette, which resembles a shark\u2019s dorsal fin breaking the surface. It is often considered the &#8220;fish capital&#8221; of the island due to the sheer variety of marine life found there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-foreground-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-ff8e7e35329cb07e7f7d78fcf345ced9\"><strong>Key Details<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-foreground-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-536b82ebfeac6adc775f678e02f1173d\"><strong>Depth:<\/strong> 5 to 25 meters.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-foreground-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-2f6d707ab819706a5b9e0ecdd05c905d\"><strong>Skill Level:<\/strong> Open Water to Advanced. While parts are shallow, the site is prone to strong currents, making it an excellent place to practice drift diving.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-foreground-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-f2ddfc60c061042224333877df35676a\"><strong>Visibility:<\/strong> 5 to 20 meters (can be affected by the currents that bring in nutrient-rich water).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-foreground-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-36a71b36db1f67eec32c6fffd084613c\"><strong>Topography:<\/strong> A massive, sloping reef made of granite boulders. The north side is shallower and more protected, while the south side drops deeper into the sand.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-foreground-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-2b400712a552e2d55f0105781124e00d\"><strong>Marine Life<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list has-foreground-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-13a640af844345c796f4945cd89520a4\">\n<li><strong>The &#8220;Purple Forest&#8221;:<\/strong> Like Hin Wong, the deeper boulders here are covered in stunning soft purple tree corals and gorgonian sea fans.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Unique Sightings:<\/strong> Shark Island is famous for being one of the few places on Koh Tao where you can regularly see <strong>Titan Triggerfish<\/strong> in large numbers (be cautious during nesting season!). It\u2019s also a hotspot for <strong>Orange-spine Unicornfish<\/strong> and <strong>Longfin Bannerfish<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Giants:<\/strong> <strong>Whale Sharks<\/strong> are frequent visitors here.
