Green Rock

Green Rock Dive Site is one of the more adventurous and varied dive spots around Koh Tao, known for its swim-throughs, crevices, and occasional strong currents.

Overview
Green Rock sits just north of Koh Tao and is usually dived as part of trips to nearby sites like Nang Yuan Island. It consists of a cluster of submerged granite boulders forming a maze-like underwater landscape.

Depth & Conditions

  • Depth range: ~8 to 30 meters
  • Visibility: Typically 10–25 meters
  • Currents: Can be mild to quite strong at times (this is what makes it exciting but sometimes challenging)

Topography
The site is famous for its tight swim-throughs, tunnels, and narrow gullies between massive rocks. Some passages are small and require good buoyancy control—this isn’t the best place for brand-new divers, but it’s great for those with a bit of experience.

Marine Life
Green Rock is particularly known for:

  • Moray eels (often seen poking out of crevices)
  • Blue-spotted stingrays
  • Reef fish like angelfish, butterflyfish, and barracuda
  • Occasional sightings of whale sharks (rare, but possible around Koh Tao)

There’s also plenty of macro life hidden among the rocks, so it appeals to both wide-angle and macro enthusiasts.

Dive Experience

  • Best suited for: Open Water divers with some experience, Advanced divers preferred when currents are strong
  • Highlight: Exploring the labyrinth of rock formations and spotting hidden marine life
  • Caution: Watch for surge and current, especially near tighter passages

Why Dive Green Rock?
It’s less about big pelagics and more about exploration and structure—if you enjoy weaving through underwater terrain and discovering marine life tucked into rocky hideouts, this site stands out from Koh Tao’s more open reef dives.

If you want, I can compare it with other Koh Tao dive sites like White Rock or Chumphon Pinnacle so you can decide which ones fit your skill level best.
